Work for local change, volunteer with Initiative 100
The City of Seattle is in the planning stages of a new jail. In a time when we are closing 5 public schools, at a mere savings of $3-4 million, the City is also planning on investing $226 million on a new jail, without allowing meaningful public comment. Is this the future we want for our city? Will we choose to plan for failure, or choose to fund supportive services that will nurture our children? Initiative 100 would mandate that the city analyze successful jail diversion programs, address the effects of racial disparity within the incarceration system, and put it to a public vote!
I-100 is more than half way there, but many more signatures need to be collected to get I-100 on the November ballot! Shifts and training are readily available through July 22nd. Now is when we need your help the most! Just a couple of hours will make all the difference. I-100 swag for volunteering! Email Natalie, at , to sign-up!
